Green Bean Casserole
Introduction
Whether itโs Thanksgiving time or just a random Saturday, this casserole might just be the main event. All the flavor and aroma, but vegan. Thankfully French onions are already vegan, because those are my favorite part! We will use the Mushroom Gravy, but leave out a couple of the spices so they donโt dominate. You can make the gravy prior to help save time.
Total Time: 1 to 1ยฝ hours (not counting the Gravy)
Ingredients
24 oz. green beans (about 4 cups), frozen
ยฝ cup milk
6 oz. French fried onions
6 oz. bacon
1 yellow onion, diced small
1 Tbsp. garlic, minced (about 2 cloves)
1 tsp. black pepper
1 Mushroom Gravy, minus the rosemary and sage
Olive oil
Instructions
โข Make the Mushroom Gravy, but leave out the rosemary and sage (these tend to be a bit overpowering with the green beans). Cover and either set aside or refrigerate until ready to use (depending on if you are making the gravy early to save time).
โข Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF.
โข Start to cook the bacon according to package instructions.
โข While the bacon is cooking, in a separate pan sautรฉ the onion with a Tbsp. of olive oil over med-high heat until it starts to become translucent, stirring regularly.
โข Add the garlic and continue to sautรฉ for another couple of minutes.
โข When the onions/garlic are done, transfer to a large bowl.
โข When the bacon is done, dice it into pieces and also transfer to the bowl.
โข Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl (except for the French onions), including the gravy. Mix well.
โข Transfer all of the bowlโs contents to a 9ร13 inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
โข Remove the foil and spread the French onions on top of the casserole. Return to the oven, uncovered, and bake for another 10 minutes.
