Introduction

A classic appetizer and snack. Do you know anyone that doesn’t love hummus? I don’t… You certainly aren’t limited to just these options! Get creative and create your own. I love these with soft pita bread or even naan, but crackers and tortilla chips work too. In case you aren’t familiar, garbanzo beans and chickpeas are the same thing – just to make your grocery shopping a little easier!
Tahini sauce is really thick and can be hard to work with, especially if it’s separated in the jar (oil on top). Do your best to mix it so it’s smooth.
If you’re looking for some spice with your jalapeño, you can keep some of the seeds/membranes or add another one.

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Garlic:
2 15 oz. cans garbanzo beans, rinsed
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup tahini sauce
⅓ cup water
3 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. garlic, minced (about 4 cloves)
3 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. salt

Roasted Red Bell Pepper:
2 15 oz. cans garbanzo beans, rinsed
2 roasted red bell peppers (12 oz. jar)
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup tahini sauce
3 Tbsp. lemon juice
3 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. salt

Jalapeño:
2 15 oz. cans garbanzo beans, rinsed
2 jalapeños, de-membraned and de-seeded
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup tahini sauce
¼ cup water
3 Tbsp. lemon juice
3 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. salt

Instructions

•  If you’d like, you can save just a little of the flavoring ingredient (garlic / pepper), mince it, and use on top as a garnish, like in the photo above.
•  Combine all ingredients in a large food processor. Process on high until smooth.

Want to really impress your friends/family?
You can peel all of the garbanzo beans. The beans have a translucent covering that protects them; if you remove this covering, the resulting hummus will be silky smooth. It takes dedication, but the difference is very noticeable!
